In November 2006, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) released a forecast that projected that global semiconductor sales would ride a strong wave of consumer demand and grow by 10% in 2007 to nearly $274 billion. Last November, the SIA released a forecast projecting 10% growth for 2007. While sales for the first quarter grew by 3.2% from the same period a year ago, growth so far is running well short of the SIA forecast. Consumption remains strong and unit shipments for most semiconductor products have been increasing, but abundant supplies have led to price pressures and declining average selling prices for many products.  more >>
