Dear Subscriber,
In an era of energy and environmental concerns, fab productivity takes on new dimensions, including "recycling" mature IC fabs to make image sensors, MEMS and other products. In fact, products such as Nintendo's Wii and Apple's iPhone have sparked a surge of interest in MEMS devices. At SEMICON West on July 15, fab managers will discuss several of these efforts at a workshop, "How to Breath New Life Into Old Fabs." Another set of speakers will participate in an energy conservation workshop, also on July 15. And the recycling and conservation topic arises again at SEMI's Best of West awards, where Air Products vies for an award for its system to recover a rare gas, xenon, from effluent gas streams.
