Austin May Have Lost Thousands of High-Tech Jobs, but Remaining Ones Pay Well
High-tech wages have risen in Austin to an average of $100,536 because the makeup of the local high-tech workforce has changed, writes Kirk Ladendorf of the Austin American-Statesman, in reporting on a survey by the American Electronics Association. "There are fewer people manufacturing things and more professional people, including engineers and software. Some lower-wage manufacturing jobs were replaced by higher-wage engineering, development and management positions. Austin trailed San Jose/Silicon Valley, with average pay of $144,828, and San Francisco at $118,518."
