Shinoda Plasma Creates Flexible Plasma Display Kenji Tsuda, Asia Contributing Editor - 11/06/2008
At the FPD International show in Yokohama, Japan, Shinoda Plasma Co. Ltd. demonstrated a large-format flexible plasma display panel measuring 1 × 3 m. The plasma display has a thickness of only 1 mm, and is designed for large-scale digital signage used at public venues such as museums and subways.

Seiko Epson Corp. said its resin-based gold bumping technology has passed reliability tests, leading to its use in applications such as HDTVs. The approach enables display engineers to mount driver chips onto a glass board, using less gold and tighter 20 μm wiring pitches.

Researchers Advance CNT-Based Networks Staff - 07/24/2008
In what appears to be a major advance in carbon nanotube-based circuits, researchers from Purdue University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign said they have succeeded in building networks of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The team solved the problem of metallic CNTs causing short circuits by cutting the network into precise strips. The effort could advance the field of flexible circuits and displays, they said.

Visionox Readies First Volume OLED Line Yao Gang, Editor-in-Chief, SI China - 06/11/2008
Visionox (Beijing, China) said its volume OLED production line will begin operation in October in Kunshan, Jiangsu. The company said it has started installing production equipment at the plant, which is expected to have an annual capacity of more than 10 million small-size OLED devices. Visionox’s OLED technology derives from R&D at Tsinghua University, where several professors began basic OLED research in 1996.
