SEMICON Europa 2009 to be Held in Dresden

SEMI Europe President Heinz Kundert announced that SEMICON Europa will be held at the Dresden Messe in Dresden, Germany, starting in 2009. After a long run in Munich, the event was held in Stuttgart last year and will be held there for a final time Oct. 7-9. The Dresden area in eastern Germany accounts for 60% of Europe's semiconductor production, he said.

SEMI (San Jose) said it is switching venues for its SEMICON Europa show, moving to Dresden, Germany, for the Oct. 6-8, 2009, show. This year’s SEMICON Europa, set for Oct. 7-9, will end a short two-year run in Stuttgart, Germany.

Heinz Kundert, president of SEMI Europe (Brussels, Belgium) said the move came “in response to the changing semiconductor manufacturing environment; encouragement from members, exhibitors and attendees; and support from the State of Saxony and City of Dresden.”

Kundert said that much of Europe’s semiconductor industry lies within 90 miles of Dresden, including three of Europe's largest semiconductor manufacturers, 60% of Europe’s IC output and ~80% of Germany’s photovoltaic production. Also, Dresden is home to many research institutions, universities and >1200 equipment and materials companies.

The show will be centered at the Dresden Messe. "This venue will foster more efficient industry supply chain interaction and strengthen dialogue between the various stakeholders about competitiveness and the advancement of the European semiconductor industry," Kundert said.

The Dresden Messe will be the site of the SEMICON Europa show, starting in 2009.
