Keithley, Chinese research lab team for RF test development

The collaboration allows Keithley and IMC to jointly work on existing applications as well as research emerging applications.

By Ann Steffora Mutschler, Senior Editor -- Electronic News, 3/27/2008

Cleveland-based electrical and RF test company Keithley Instruments Inc said today it is partnering with the Institute of Mobile Communications (IMC) of Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, China to work on joint research projects to expand existing applications, as well as research emerging wireless applications and technologies.

Keithley believes it is well positioned to aid the wireless technology research of the IMC, particularly in multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO), which is an emerging wireless communication technology that responds to the growing demand for more data in mobile communication devices, supported by the newest wireless standards being based on MIMO.

This collaboration allows Keithley and IMC to work on existing applications as well as research emerging applications. The IMC believes its partnership with Keithley will allow it to establish an advanced research MIMO platform.

“Wireless communication products continue to be major drivers in the global electronics market," Mark Hoersten, Keithley VP, business management, said in a statement. "As a result, researchers working on developing the next generation of wireless communication products need leading-edge test instrumentation. As a leader in RF test technology, especially leading-edge MIMO technology, Keithley looks forward to its partnership with the IMC as we continue our long-standing tradition of working with cutting edge institutions and companies to develop the technologies of the future.”

“Information-theory based coding and transmissions play an important role in the future of communications and information technology,” Dr. Pingzhi Fan, director of information coding and transmission at the IMC, added in the statement.
