VLSI Research Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.) announced its 2007 ranking of the top 10 IC equipment suppliers, with the group achieving a solid 10% increase in sales despite market uncertainties at the end of the year. The total equipment industry grew by ~8% in 2007, slightly slower than the 10 largest vendors.
The top 10 suppliers had combined revenues of $33.5B, out of ~$57.5B for the total industry, according to the market research firm.
The top 15 IC equipment companies "continue to represent the core of the industry," accounting for 67% of the total market, up 2% from 2006, the company said.
U.S.-based companies accounted for 47% of the combined revenues of the top 15 suppliers, while Japan-based companies represented 37%. The two European representatives together accounted for 16% of the top 15 revenues. Compared with 2006, the U.S. and European companies each gained a percentage point while the Japanese companies lost two points from the overall share, according to VLSI Research.
