IPC Launches Excess Parts Web Site

-- Semiconductor International, 3/1/2001

The Electronic Manufacturing Services Council of IPC has launched a Web site where industry members can buy and sell excess parts. The site's URL is www.emexcess.com. This IPC-maintained Web site will allow users to post a file of obsolete/excess inventory and search the posted inventory by manufacturer part number. "This tool helps electronics manufacturers solve two of their biggest challenges - not having enough of the right parts and having too many of the wrong ones," said Gregory Horton, president of SMTEK International and a driving force behind the creation of EMexcess.com.

IPC members can log in and enter the part numbers of the components they are searching for into the search box. If the part numbers are in the database, the search results will include the part number, quantity available, manufacturer, and information to contact the company representative to discuss the sale.

It's also possible to post inventory. Users will be prompted to upload a file in csv format. Inventory files must be updated within 30 days or they will be purged from the system.

Non-members can click the search button to access the system and enter the parts to search. However, they will not have access to information to contact the facility with the inventory.
