A call for papers has been issued for the 27th International Electronics Manufacturing Technology Symposium (IEMT), being held Nov. 12-13 at the Marriott Hotel in Santa Clara, Calif. Cosponsored by IEEE/CPMT and SEMI, the symposium offers engineers and scientists the opportunity to present and publish original works focusing on manufacturing and technology issues associated with leading-edge electronics. Abstracts of 250 words must be received no later than March 30. For further information, contact Lurdes Rivera-Murphy at 1-408-943-7053 or visit www.semi.org.The Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA) has joined RosettaNet, an e-business standards consortium, and will participate at the board level on the recently announced semiconductor standard initiative. The FSA will represent the interests of its members and promote participation in the RosettaNet initiative by all fabless companies and their supply chain partners. The FSA will also encourage larger fabless company members to participate on the RosettaNet Semiconductor Manufacturing Managing Board. For further information, visit www.fsa.org or www.rosettanet.org.
A new trade association, the MEMS Industry Group, has been launched to represent the $2B MEMS technology sector. Representing the U.S. MEMS industry, it will function as a member resource by sharing technology roadmaps, global market information and state-of-the-industry reports, and by acting as an advocate in public policy issues. The new association has launched a Web site to give members access to association-generated industry research and statistics. For further information, visit www.memsindustrygroup.org.
Nominations are being accepted for the SEMI (Technology) Award for North America 2001. This award recognizes selected individuals and teams for outstanding technical achievement in the semiconductor equipment and materials industry. The nominee can be the originator of a concept, material process, equipment or factory operation innovation, or someone who has made significant enhancements or additions to a concept that enabled its successful implementation in the commercial market. The deadline for nominations is March 30; awards will be presented at the 28th annual SEMI Dinner and Awards Ceremony, to be held Sept. 7 at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose. For further information, contact Ralph Kirk at 1-408-943-6992 or visit www.semi.org.
The ASTM Committee E13on Molecular Spectroscopy and Chromatography has named Jerome J. Workman Jr. as its new chairman. Workman, a research fellow and team leader for new methods development and molecular spectroscopy at Kimberly-Clark Corp. (Neenah, Wis.), is also a member of several E13 subcommittees and recently received two Awards of Appreciation for his contributions to two new standards. Committee E13 works to advance the field of molecular spectroscopy, including absorption, fluorescence, scattering, polarization of radiant energy, nuclear magnetic resonance, as well as the field of chromatography by sponsoring meetings and symposia for paper presentation, standardizing nomenclature, and coordinating scientific practices and test methods.
