Growth of Nanotubes for Electronics
John Robertson, Engineering Department, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK, www.cam.ac.uk -- Semiconductor International, 9/1/2007
The roadmap for semiconductor devices envisages that carbon nanotubes (CNTs) or semiconducting nanowires could become important in about 10 years. This article reviews where CNTs could contribute to microelectronics, in terms of vias, interconnects and field-effect transistors (FETs). It focuses particularly on the requirements microelectronics place on the growth of nanotubes. That is, control over the formation of semiconducting or metallic tubes, controlling the growth location and direction, and achieving high enough nucleation densities.Originally published in our sister publication, Materials Today, please revisit "Growth of Nanotubes for Electronics" today.
