SEMICON Japan 2005

It's back, and it's bigger than ever. SEMICON Japan, taking place Dec. 7-9 in Chiba, Japan, will be housed in the Makuhari Messe (Nippon Convention Center). More than 4200 booths from 1200 exhibitors will be shown in 11 halls, making SEMICON Japan the largest international tradeshow for semiconductor equipment and materials. The three-day exhibition and conference will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

As it has been done in past years, the SEMI Technology Symposium (Table ) will cover a variety of topics related to the semiconductor industry, including multilevel interconnects and nanotechnology, with a keynote address given by Michael Polcari of Sematech, titled, "Innovation and Productivity: Accelerating the Next Technology Revolution." Delivered on Wednesday, this presentation aims to cover the many difficulties the industry faces technically, and how the radical changes being made to the technology are revolutionary for the field.

Other programs to look out for while visiting the show are the business sessions offered to registrants. Among the many choices of programs are e-manufacturing, the Ninth SEMI Microsystem/MEMS seminar, the International Packaging Strategy Symposium, and the SEMI Photovoltaic Technology Symposium.

The International Standards Meetings will also take place Monday through Thursday of the show. An energy conservation workshop will be held to discuss perspectives and experiences with energy conservation in the industry and how to implement these schemes in the industry's technologies. Standard P10 will be reviewed in a photomask orders session, and will clear up any issues suppliers might incur during the photomask process. Other topics include the next-generation wafer and traceability standards for semiconductor manufacturing.
