SEC/N Thoughts
Gary Alexander, President, SEC/N -- Semiconductor International, 1/1/2001
In keeping with SEC/N's objectives, I had set aside a time and place for more than 16 e-commerce companies to discuss developing the standards and ethical business practices that the semiconductor used equipment buyers and sellers felt were important. I received many promises of attendance, but only three companies showed up. I would like to recognize KeyAssets, SemiSales and VerticalNet for their commitment and interest in promoting professionalism in their industry.
It was about two years ago that the semiconductor used equipment marketplace was in search of industrywide standards of ethics and professional business practices. Five companies felt strongly enough about this need that they came together to form SEC/N. Today, that consortium has more than 50 benchmark member companies.
I challenge the e-commerce companies to work with SEC/N to bring about the reforms in standards and ethical business practices that are necessary, if they expect to become accepted members of the semiconductor used equipment community. •
