The total dollar value of worldwide semiconductor sales fell by 18.3% between June and July, according to preliminary data released by the SIA. Between the same two months of 1999, worldwide sales dropped about 11%, and this July's sales were 45.4% higher than in the same month of last year. Between June and July of this year, semiconductor sales fell in all four broad regions of the world. But year-to-date 2000 sales in all regions remained ahead of the dollar sales level realized during the first seven months of 1999.
Global cumulative year-to-date sales were 41.8% higher through July of this year than during January-July 1999. The dollar value of chip sales to the Americas this July was 38.7% above its July 1999 level. Sales to Europe during this July were 36.8% above what they were the same month last year.
Sales to Japan were 50.7% higher this July than during July 1999. Through the first seven months of this year, chip sales to Japan were growing at a pace 45.6% ahead of the 1999 level. The dollar value of chip sales to the rest of the Asia/Pacific market was 56.0% greater this July than during July of 1999. .
