Co-sponsored by International SEMATECH and the Semiconductor Industry Suppliers Association (SISA), the Advanced Equipment Control/Advanced Process Control (AEC/APC) Symposium XII will be held September 23-28 at Lake Tahoe, Nev. Bob Helms, vice president of Texas Instruments and professor emeritus at Stanford University, will give the keynote speech. For more information, see the Web site at www.aecapcsymposium.org.The Association of Vacuum Equipment Manufacturers International (AVEM) Fall Seminar will be held Oct. 3 at the Sheraton Boston Hotel in Boston, during the AVS Fall Symposium. Organizers say they are "bringing together experts from several key vacuum equipment market segments to provide an overview as to the needs of their industry for vacuum equipment - today and for the future." For registration details, visit www.avem.org.
The Society of Vacuum Coaters will host its 44th Annual Technical Conference on April 21-26, 2001, at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel, Philadelphia. The focus will be on providing access to the latest vacuum coating tools and technologies. Presentations will be made in technical sessions on April 23-25. The deadline for receipt of 200-word abstracts is October 1, 2000. Supplier presentations on new products and services and an equipment exhibit featuring more than 180 exhibits take place April 23-24. For more information, visit www.svc.org.
The 27th International Symposium on Compound Semiconductors will be held Oct. 2-5 at the Hyatt Regency in Monterey, Calif. The event - co-sponsored by the IEEE Electron Devices Society and the IEEE Lasers, Electro-Optics Society- will feature papers on all aspects of compound semiconductors, including growth, processing, devices and ICs. These materials include III-V compounds including nitrides; SiC; wide bandgap II-VI compounds such as ZnSe, ZnS; IV-IV materials such as SiGe; etc. See www.iscs2000.com for more information.
DISKCON, sponsored by the International Disk Drive Equipment and Materials Association (IDEMA), will be held Sept. 18-22 at the San Jose Convention Center. Events include a charity golf tournament on Sept. 18; education classes, Sept. 18-21; standards workshops, Sept. 18-19; keynote dinner, Sept. 19; technical conference, Sept. 19-21; and exhibition, Sept. 20-21. See www.idema.org for more details.
During the 47th International Symposium and Equipment Exhibition in Boston (Oct. 2-6, 2000) The American Vacuum Society (AVS) will conduct a short-course program that will provide training for technicians, scientists and engineers under three broad categories: applied vacuum technology (16 courses); surface analysis and materials characterization (13 courses); and materials, thin film and coatings (28 courses). Visit www.vacuum.org for more details.
Mark your calendars for the Fall meeting of the Materials Research Society to be held Nov. 27-Dec. 1 in Boston.
