The total dollar value of worldwide semiconductor sales increased by 7.4% between October and November of last year, following a 10.1% decline the month before. Compared to the same month a year earlier, November 1999 sales improved by 30.3%. For the first 11 months of 1999, the dollar value of all chip sales (~ $133B) was up 17.1% from January-November 1998.

Over-the-year trends have shown solid improvement in all regions. November chip sales to the Americas were 20.2% above their November 1998 level. Through 11 months of 1999, the dollar value of sales to the Americas was 12.9% ahead of January-November 1998. European chip sales were 16.8% higher in November than in November 1998, and on a cumulative year-to-date basis 1999 sales to Europe were 7.0% ahead of the 1998 pace. Sales to Japan were 44.6% higher in November than in November 1998 and 24.7% ahead of the 1998 pace for the first 11 months of the year. Sales to the rest of Asia/Pacific were up 26.7% through November 1999, compared with January-November 1998. Chip sales into the Asia/Pacific market were valued 45.2% greater in November than in November 1998. •
