Progress in Web-Based Data Management
Laura Peters, Senior Editor -- Semiconductor International, 12/1/2001
The needs of fabless semiconductor firms to more rapidly bring to market complex, leading-edge ICs has led to the adoption of data management systems that provide access to engineering data in a collaborative environment. The dataConductor.com product from Syntricity (San Diego) was recently adopted by such companies as Cirrus Logic (Austin, Texas), SigmaTel (Austin) and Tundra (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) to allow Internet-hosted data management, analysis and reporting solutions.
The dataConductor.com program, introduced in October 2000, uses browser-based, Web-native server technology to ensure scalability and maintainability. This differs from Web-enabled approaches that may offer limited scalability. Users also obtain a more cost-effective solution thorough the payment of monthly access fees, avoiding the large capital investment required for in-house-developed data management systems.
The program’s browser interface simplifies the process of data sharing, and allows fabless companies to more quickly identify yield problems and resolve them with their foundry supplier or testing partner.
