Korea Funds Design Training
-- Semiconductor International, 7/1/1999
The Korean government will join with private
companies to educate 19,000 non-memory chip engineers. The project follows
completion of a first-phase education program due this year. Three private
companies -- Samsung Electronics, Hyundai MicroElectronics and Anam
Semiconductor -- are expected to invest equal amounts, totaling $33M along with
the government's contribution.
During the first phase, as many as 3,700 students were trained along with
1,170 graduates now working at semiconductor companies. This project focused on
engineers for the memory-chip sector. For the second phase, the Ministry of
Industry and Materials will invest $16.5M into the project.
