Korea Funds Design Training

Korea The Korean government will join with private companies to educate 19,000 non-memory chip engineers. The project follows completion of a first-phase education program due this year. Three private companies -- Samsung Electronics, Hyundai MicroElectronics and Anam Semiconductor -- are expected to invest equal amounts, totaling $33M along with the government's contribution.

During the first phase, as many as 3,700 students were trained along with 1,170 graduates now working at semiconductor companies. This project focused on engineers for the memory-chip sector. For the second phase, the Ministry of Industry and Materials will invest $16.5M into the project.
