MKS Instruments Inc. opened a new Taiwan office to expand local
support in Asia. The technical and sales staff will provide sales,
service and support for all the company's products in Taiwan.
Consilium Inc. (Mountain View, Calif.) received a multi-million
dollar order for software licenses and services from Chi Mei
Optoelectronics Corp. The products will be used to control and automate
Chi Mei's new thin film transistor-liquid crystal display fab in Tainan,
Taiwan.
Air Products and Chemicals Inc. (Allentown, Pa.) and the
Kinetics Group Inc. (Lehigh Valley, Pa.) has formed a 50/50
semiconductor industry joint venture company named Trimega. This new
company will be a source provider focusing on delivering a complete
range of low-cost and high quality fab materials, process systems,
facility operations and environmental and safety solutions for the
industry.
Johnson Matthey Electronics (JME, Spokane, Wash.) and
Thermacore International Inc. have signed a business agreement that will
combine each company's field of expertise in thermal management and
allow for a joint marketing and sales program. Under terms of the
agreement, the companies will develop products high-technology thermal
management solutions.
Therma-Wave Inc. received an order from Shipley Co. for two
Opti-Probe 5000 metrology systems. The systems will be used in research
and production technology areas for the optical characterization of 248
nm, 193 nm and next-generation lithography materials.
Fluoroware Inc. (Chaska, Minn.) and Empak Inc. (Colorado
Springs, Colo.) have signed a letter of intent to consolidate the two
companies. Under the terms of the letter, after closing, a nine-member
board of directors will govern the new company: three designated from
Fluoroware, three from Empak and three independent directors agreed to
by the parties.
Johnson Matthey Hydrogen Technology Group (Wayne, Pa.)
delivered two model HE120 hydrogen purifiers to Aixtron AG (Aachen,
Germany). Aixtron will supply the purifiers to the Epitaxial Products
International Ltd. expanded manufacturing facility in South Wales.
Rudolph Technologies Inc. (Flanders, N.J.) opened its new
manufacturing facility in Ledgewood, N.J. It is the home for
manufacturing, assembly and service groups with approximately 60
employees as well as a training facility for customers.
EMAPK Inc. (Colorado Springs, Colo.) has acquired Hanbal, a
Korean manufacturing facility. The new site will provide customers with
products for semiconductor and hard disk drive applications.
Watkins-Johnson (WJ, Palo Alto, Calif.) signed a letter of
intent to sell most of the semiconductor equipment group to Silicon
Valley Group. The letter includes the business associated with the
atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition products and the real
estate in Scotts Valley, Calif. and Kawasaki, Japan.
