Canon Sales Co. (Tokyo) has acquired Quester Technology Inc. (Fremont, Calif.). Canon will operate Quester as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Quester's executive staff will remain in place to operate the company.
Balzers Thin Films Inc. (Golden, Colo.) announced expansion of its Golden facility. The expansion is due to the company's being awarded a contract for assembly of light engines for next-generation projection displays. The project necessitates the addition of 12,000 ft2 of cleanroom assembly area.
Photobit Corp. (Pasadena, Calif.) and Tower Semiconductor Ltd. will cooperate on CMOS image sensor technology. Photobit will develop the sensors, and Tower will manufacture them. The two companies have been working together for two years on custom and off-the-shelf CMOS image sensors.
Genesis Microchip Inc. (Toronto) has signed an agreement to merge with Paradise Electronics Inc. (San Jose, Calif.). Under terms of the merger, 4.3 million shares of Genesis common stock will be exchanged for all outstanding shares of Paradise. The merger is expected to be accounted for as a pooling of interests and to qualify as a tax-free organization. The transaction has been approved by each company's board of directors and is subject to customary conditions including stockholder approval from both companies.
Exergy Inc. (Hanson, Mass.) has launched an internet website, www.exergyinc.com. The site includes: shell and tube miniature exchangers; tube-in-tube heat exchangers; drawings, dimensions and photographs for all standard products; custom design capabilities; no-cost, on-line application and review and company information and press releases with photos.
MOSAID Technologies Inc. (Ottawa) has concluded a worldwide, non-exclusive patent licensing agreement with Fujitsu Limited (Tokyo).
AG Electronic Materials Inc. (AGEM, Hillsboro, Ore.) has received ISO 9001 certification of its quality systems in design, manufacturing, sales and support. The company completed the certification program following a six-month review of its quality processes. The British Standards Institution Inc. (BSI Inc.) performed the audit process and final registration.
GaSonics International (San Jose, Calif.) received an order from AlliedSignal Electronic Materials (Los Gatos, Calif.) for a single-wafer photoresist removal system. The system will be used for development and characterization of various low-k materials in AlliedSignal's integration facility in Sunnyvale, Calif.
Aera Corp. (Austin, Texas) has received ISO 9001 certification for its headquarters. The registration of the Austin headquarters means that all its manufacturing sites worldwide are now ISO certified. The company received certification based on an ABS Quality Evaluations Inc. (Houston) audit.
Consilium Inc. (Mountain View, Calif.) has achieved ISO 9001 certification for the design, implementation and servicing functions of the manufacturing execution systems (MES) and next-generation automated factory control products that the company markets to semiconductor and electronics manufacturers.
Cabot Corp.'s Microelectronics Materials Division (Aurora, Ill.) has opened its new 4000 m2 facility in Geino, Mie Prefecture, Japan. The Geino facility, which will produce CMP slurries used in the manufacture of advanced integrated circuits (ICs), was built to meet growing demand for the company's high-purity slurries by chipmakers throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Praxair Inc. (Danbury, Conn.) has added a state-of-the-art warehouse and facility for filling cylinders with ultra-high purity nitrogen, argon and helium to its Geihung, South Korea, production site. The company has also established a specialized cylinder preparation facility that conducts internal washing, high-purity cylinder drying and internal polishing.
Austin Semiconductor Inc. (Austin, Texas) has received Class H Manufacturer Certification, Hybrid Microcircuit. The certification provides the ability to broaden the company's product offering and supply SMD-qualified multi-chip ceramic modules (MCM) to its existing customer base.
SELA USA Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.) has selected SELASTAR Corp., (Kanagawa, Japan) to distribute and service its product throughout Japan.
