UMC Offers 180 nm Foundry Services
-- Semiconductor International, 3/1/1999
The UMC Group (Hsnichu, Taiwan) announced it is engaging
with customers for 180 nm (0.18 µm) foundry services. The service includes
design kits and physical designs for libraries customized to UMC's 180 nm
process technology. The customized libraries cover standard cells, I/Os and
memory compilers for its Gold Logic L180 process.
In addition to its library program, UMC has joint-development projects to deliver silicon-verified extraction files with Avant!, Mentor, Simplex and Synopsy for the process. The goal is to increase the probability that system on chip (SOC) designs achieve working silicon the first time.
Fabless companies including S3 and Xilinx have worked with UMC to produce
chips using this process. UMC has delivered these chips, and functional
prototypes have been characterized. Ramp to volume production for the process is
expected to occur late this month. ![]()
