Tokyo Electron to Reduce Facilities Funding
Staff -- Semiconductor International, 4/1/1998
During FY98, Tokyo Electron
plans to reduce funding for equipment and facilities to half its 1997 levels, between $156
to $195 million, particularly for 300 mm wafer equipment. In 1997, Tokyo Electron spent
$367 million in facilities and equipment. The decision was influenced by similar moves by
Korean semiconductor manufacturers. Part of Tokyo Electron's 1998 funding is intended to
strengthen production lines and expand the company's service base in the United States and
Europe.
