VISHAY Agrees to Acquire TEMIC
Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, Pa.), a manufacturer of passive electronic components, will acquire the semiconductor business unit of TEMIC TELEFUNKEN Microelectronic GmbH, Heilbronn, Germany. The purchase price is ~$500 million. The closing will be in March, subject to government approvals.
TEMIC's semiconductor business unit employs 6700 worldwide, with 2000 in Germany. Sales for calendar year 1997 are expected to be ~$850 million. The semiconductor business unit consists of the Integrated Circuits (IC) division, with headquarters in Heilbronn, Germany, and the Discrete Components division, with headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif. In the United States, TEMIC operates Siliconix, located in Santa Clara, Calif., and owns 80.4% of Siliconix's outstanding shares. In France it operates TEMIC-Matra MHS, located in Nantes. In the U.K., it operates Dialog U.K. In Germany, it operates plants in Heilbronn and Itzehce, and in Austria, it operates a plant in Vocklabruck. In Asia, it operates several plants, including Manila, Philippines, Kaoshiung, Taiwan and Shanghai, mainland China.
