Obducat Garners Nanoimprint Orders From LED Maker Luxtaltek

Sweden's Obducat AB said it has received an order for two of its NIL systems from Luxtaltek Corp., a maker of LEDs and GaN wafers. Obducat CEO Patrik Lundstrom said the LED sector could generate $150M in NIL orders over the next five years.

Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) vendor Obducat AB (Malmö, Sweden) said it has received an order for two imprint systems from Luxtaltek Corp. (Taipei, Taiwan), a maker of high-brightness light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

The order, worth $3.5M, is for a Sindre 400 NIL tool with a throughput of 30 wph, and for a Sindre 60 system with a 12 wph capability.

The relationship with Luxtaltek could result in a larger amount of business. The companies agreed that Obducat would supply consumables used in the NIL systems over the next 3-5 years with a potential value of $12.5M. Moreover, Luxtaltek said it has committed to buy more Obducat systems. Luxtaltek President Sean Lin said, “We are very pleased to get a commitment from Obducat to fully support the Luxtaltek production expansion plan for the next two years, which involves another five Sindre 400 systems and several Sindre 60 systems."

Patrik Lundström, CEO, Obducat AB

Luxtaltek is the combined entity of two Taiwan-based LED manufacturers, Taiwan Oasis Technology Corp. and Uni-light Touchtek Corp. It will supply both gallium nitride (GaN) wafers and finished LEDs, beginning in the fourth quarter of this year.

Obducat CEO Patrik Lundström said the LED market is “a highly interesting market with a potential for NIL equipment in the range of 100 million euros over the next five years, and we are very well positioned to capture a significant part of this."

In the first six months of this year, Obducat’s revenues increased to ~$5M, up from ~$2.7M in the first half of 2007. Orders for the six months were worth ~$8.7M, the company said.
