AMD Demos 45 nm Processors at CeBit

Staff -- Semiconductor International, 3/4/2008

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD, Sunnyvale, Calif.) announced today that it demonstrated its first 45 nm quad-core chips at the CeBit electronics exhibition in Hannover, Germany.

The processors were produced at AMD’s 300 mm Fab 36 in Dresden, Germany, using a 45 nm process co-developed with IBM Corp. (Fishkill, N.Y.). AMD said it used immersion lithography and its fourth-generation strained silicon technology, and expects to deliver the 45 nm products later this year.

The 45 nm silicon was able to run multiple operating systems and a range of processing-intensive applications, the company said. The first 45 nm chips demonstrated by AMD include the “Shanghai” product for servers and “Deneb” for desktop platforms.
