On November 16 the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) will announce its latest forecast for global sales of semiconductors for 2006 through 2009.

Last November, the SIA projected that worldwide microchip sales would grow by just under 8 percent in 2006 to $245 billion. In June of this year, after several key markets – notably cellular telephones – outperformed the forecast, SIA raised its projection to 9.8 percent growth and $249.6 billion in sales for 2006. Despite soaring energy prices through the first half of the year, consumer demand for technology products continued to grow. August industry revenues set a new all-time monthly record with sales of $20.5 billion dollars. The fourth quarter demand driven by the holiday buying season is always critical to the semiconductor industry, and analysts are closely watching monthly sales reports. Tune into this webcast to hear SIA President George Scalise announce the new forecast and discuss the underlying assumptions.
